“Let’s get eyes on the docks, north and west entrances,” Terry says wearily, heading for the locker room. “I’m going to go suit up.”
At her desk, Max swivels her chair around. “Hey, Terry?”
He stops, half-turns.
She gets to her feet, and she wraps him up in a hug. “I’m really sorry.”
On his next exhale, his shoulders slump, and he lets his head fall down onto her shoulder. “Thanks.”
“You’re sure you want to do this tonight? There’s no rush.”
“Yeah.” His arms tighten around her. “I want to work.”
She leans back to catch his eyes and smile at him. “You want to punch someone in the face.”
He closes his eyes and breathes in deep. “I am fucking dying to punch someone in the face.”
“All right.” One more squeeze, and she spins him toward the lockers. “Get the ears on, and get out of here.”
He heads for his gear at a jog.
